    1. Google Pay or GPay is a payment channel that allows you to make secure, contactless payments in stores, online, and in apps using your compatible Android device.

    1. Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows users to store multiple debit and credit cards securely on their Android device, enabling convenient contactless transactions online and in-store by simply tapping their phone on the compatible payment terminal.

  • When will Google Pay be available for CIBC Bank customers?

    1. Google Pay will be available to CIBC Caribbean clients starting March 10, 2026.

  • Where will Google Pay be available initially?

    1. At launch, Google Pay will be available to Visa Debit, Visa Credit and Mastercard Credit cardholders in Barbados and to Visa and Mastercard Credit card clients in Jamaica. Additional territories will be added over time as Google allows.

  • Who can use Google Pay?

    1. CIBC Caribbean clients with supported debit or credit cards and a compatible Android device can use Google Pay.

  • How do I set up Google Pay?

    1. • Download the Google Wallet app from the Google Play Store
       • Open the app and add your eligible card
       • Follow the on-screen verification steps
       • Start paying with Google Pay
  • Do I need internet or data to use Google Pay?

    1. You do not always need internet to make contactless payments in stores. However, internet or mobile data is required to set up your card and manage account settings.

  • Can I add more than one card?

    1. Yes. You can add multiple eligible debit and credit cards and select which card you want to use as your default.

  • Can I still use my physical card?

    1. Yes. Your physical card remains active and can be used anytime.

  • Where can I use Google Pay?

    1. You can use Google Pay anywhere contactless payments are accepted, locally and internationally, including stores, apps, and online merchants that support Google Pay.

  • How do I know if a store accepts Google Pay?

    1. Look for the contactless payment symbol or Google Pay logo at checkout.

  • Is Google Pay secure?

    1. Yes. Google Pay uses advanced security features such as tokenization and device-level authentication. Your actual card number is never shared with merchants.

  • What is tokenization?

    1. Tokenization replaces your actual card number with a unique digital number when you make a payment. This helps protect your card details from fraud.

  • What is device-level authentication?

    1. This means you must unlock your phone using fingerprint, facial recognition, PIN, or password before making a payment. This ensures only you can authorize transactions.

  • What should I do if my phone is lost or stolen?

    1. You can remotely lock your device or remove your cards using Google’s Find My Device feature. You should also contact CIBC Caribbean immediately for assistance.

  • Can someone make payments if they steal my phone?

    1. No. Payments require your device to be unlocked using your authentication method.

  • Does Google Wallet store my card information?

    1. No. Your full card number is not stored on your phone or shared with merchants.

  • The last 4 digits of my receipt differs from the card I used. Why is this?

    1. GPay transactions are tokenized and therefore your card number is not shared with the merchant. Instead a randomized number is shared which means that your transaction is even more secure.

  • Can I use Google Pay for contactless payments?

    1. Yes. You can make contactless payments at merchants that accept contactless or Google Pay, both locally and internationally.

  • Are there any fees to use Google Pay?

    1. CIBC Caribbean does not charge additional fees for using Google Pay. Standard account fees and transaction charges will continue to apply.

  • Will I earn rewards when using Google Pay?

    1. Yes. If your card earns rewards or points, you will continue earning them when using Google Pay on eligible transactions.

  • Is there a spending limit?

    1. Your normal card limits apply. Some merchants may also have tap-to-pay limits.

  • What happens if my phone battery dies?

    1. You can still use your physical card to make payments.

  • How will Google Pay transactions appear on my statement?

    1. Transactions will appear on your card statement just like regular card purchases.

  • How does Google Pay make everyday payments easier?

    1. Google Pay allows fast, secure payments without needing to carry your wallet and simplifies online and in-app purchases.
