Quicker and more secure process for online transactions

Use Biometric Authentication with Online Banking and our Mobile App when required to validate online transactions

Biometric Authentication, once enabled, provides an additional layer of verification during online transactions made with your Visa Debit or Credit Card when the Bank needs to further authenticate the validity of your purchase. Once your authentication is received, the Bank will allow the payment to be processed.

What is Biometric Authentication?

Biometric Authentication is a security process that verifies a user's identity using their unique biological traits, such as:
- fingerprints
- facial recognition

- voice recognition

It's an alternative to traditional authentication methods like one-time password (OTP) verification.

Android devices

Use fingerprint recognition to validate online transactions. You must first set up your fingerprint in the device settings and in Online Banking and our Mobile App.

Apple devices

Facial recognition will be the method for authentication, once you have set up face ID in your device’s settings and in Online Banking and our Mobile App.

Enabling and using Biometric Authentication

Ensure that Biometric Authentication is enabled: As with OTP process, you will only be prompted to use your Biometric Authentication for specific online transactions for which we require additional authentication.
If Biometric Authentication is not enabled: You will be prompted to verify your transaction via the OTP process to complete your transaction.
The Biometric Authentication or OTP verifications are applicable to online transactions using both Debit and Credit cards.
Failed Biometric Authentication: If your Biometric Authentication fails more than three times, you can still complete your transaction, but you will be required to enter your online banking password to authenticate the payment.

If completing your online purchase using a PC or laptop, ensure that your phone is close by, to accept the transaction.
Ensure your devices, operating system and banking app are up to date to activate this feature.
Biometric authentication is optional. You can still use One-Time Password (OTP) to validate these transactions if you prefer not to use biometric methods.
In case of issues with your fingerprint or face recognition you can always reset or reconfigure your biometric settings through your device settings.

Payment Initiation: You initiate an online purchase and enter your card details

Authentication Prompt: If the transaction being attempted warrants additional verification you will receive a push notification and be directed to our Mobile App, where you are asked to either accept or decline the transaction using biometrics (facial or fingerprint recognition).
Verification: Once you've completed the biometrics process, the next step requires you to either accept or decline the transaction. If the biometrics process fails more than 3 times, you will be required to input your Online Banking password to complete the transaction.
Transaction Approval: If you approve the transaction, the purchase is completed. If you decline the transaction, the purchase is blocked.

In the event that you approved the transaction but authentication failed, the purchase is blocked and you will be required to reattempt as a new transaction.

Payment Initiation: You initiate an online purchase and enter your card details


Additional authentication required: This diverts the payment of the transaction and sends you an authorisation request


Authentication Prompt: You receive the request and are redirected to our Mobile App, where you are asked to either accept or decline the transaction using biometrics (facial recognition or fingerprint scan).

Transaction accepted:
You've selected 'Accept' on the Verify Transaction screen

Transaction Approval:
If the authentication is successful, the transaction is approved, and the purchase is completed


Transaction declined: You've selected 'Decline' on the Verify Transaction screen, the purchase is blocked
