A new digital cheque clearing process

Our digital banking journey continues

The Central Bank of Barbados (CBB) has issued a regulatory mandate for all banks in Barbados to digitise the cheque clearing process to facilitate cheque image exchange.

To comply, CIBC Caribbean, will be implementing a new digital cheque clearing solution, designed to streamline and expedite your transactions.

The next six months will be a testing phase, and while the expectation is to improve the bank’s cheque clearing capabilities, to ensure that cheque transactions are successfully processed, your cheques must meet the required cheque clearing standards; specifications for printing cheques and the six key points for the electronic processing of cheques.

Six key points for the electronic processing of cheques:

1. Payee

2. Date

3. Amount

4. Drawer

5. Drawee Bank

6. MICR Line

If your cheque does not meet all six of the above key points, it will be rejected. However, there will be an interim period of six months where physical non-compliant cheques (not meeting digital requirements) can be exchanged.  After this period, they will be rejected.

We remain committed to ensuring a seamless transition as we upgrade our services to enhance your banking experience with us.

If you have any queries or need clarity on the above information, please feel free to reach out to your Relationship Manager or Branch Manager.
